I am tentatively naming the book “Lloigor”.
Timeframe for the story is 2023 starting in late-October, early November.
Setting is in New England, Western New York State to Southern Vermont. Chorazin is the primary location with side trips to Buffalo, New York and Townshend, Vermont.
It is set in JMG’s “Haliverse” alternate universe where the evil in HP Lovecraft’s (et al) universe is turned on it’s head and made into the good guys.
I am hijacking a couple of characters from the Haliverse. Walt Moore and the Khorep Brothers will have roles in the story.
From JMG's "Weird of Hali Companion"
Shray Gyoreng: Tcho-Tcho elder, usually called “Uncle Gyoreng.” Born in northern Laos, he remained at home to tend the family farm while his younger brother Khorep went to fight the Pathet Lao. He fled the Communist takeover in 1975, spent two years in a refugee camp, and was in the first contingent of Tcho-Tcho refugees permitted to emigrate to the United States in 1977, settling in Buffalo, New York. He opened the Sarkomand Restaurant in that city, which quickly earned a reputation as the best Thai restaurant in town; customers who knew enough to ask for the other menu could order traditional Leng cuisine, which was even better. He taught his nephew Lharep to cook, to the future delight of diners in Arkham. (W3, YL)
Shray Khorep: Tcho-Tcho elder. Born in northern Laos, he was recruited by the CIA to help fight the Pathet Lao insurgency during the Vietnam War. Just before the Communist victory he and his brother Gyoreng escaped to Thailand, where he spent three years in a refugee camp before emigrating to the United States and settling in Buffalo, New York, where he married and had a daughter, Nzelhe, and a son, Lharep. He was one of the leaders of the Tcho-Tcho group who went to Chorazin to assist in the liberation of Yhoundeh, and was still alive to witness the fulfillment of the Weird of Hali. (W3, YL)
Moore, Walt: Born in Chorazin, he enlisted in the US Army in 1966 when the folk of Chorazin were driven out of town, qualified for Special Forces, and served for four years in Laos, fighting the Pathet Lao alongside Tcho-Tchos recruited by the CIA. Once Chorazin was reoccupied again, he worked a variety of jobs, finishing up as the manager of the Elk Hill Motor Hotel. (W3, YL)
I am introducing two additional characters into the Haliverse.
Hale, Carl: born in 2000, in Chorazin, Grandson of Betty Hale. Left Chorazin to join Army at 19 (2019). Enlisted in Infantry for bonus and after AIT (Infantry at Fort Benning) was assigned to the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum. Deployed to Afghanistan 2 times. Served with Evan Barris (Charlie Company, 1st BN 87th INF)
Barris, Evan: Born in 1999, In Cardinal Springs, NY. Family moved to a Southern Utah fundamentalist enclave when he was still an infant. Left abusive home relationship to join the Army. Enlisted in Infantry for Bonus and after AIT (Infantry at Fort Benning) was assigned to the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum. Deployed to Afghanistan 2 times. Served with Carl Hale (Charlie Company, 1st BN 87th INF).
Outline:
Takes place late in year three of the Haliverse. Innsmouth, Kingsport, and Chorazin are over. The young Goddess (Yhoundeh) is still just getting back in the swing of things.
The Radiance have spent six years licking their wounds after the retreat at Chorazin. The directorate has decided on an oblique approach to Chorazin: They have begun a campaign of low level harassment coupled with getting the idea into the the right groups that Chorazin is “off the map” for game laws and that you can take as much game as you see fit. The groups that they have infiltrated with this idea also tend to be the most environmentally abusive of the survivalist/hunting types that are well armed and aggressive. They come in, take a lot of game, leave a big mess behind them.
Yhoundeh is in the same boat as the rest of the old ones. She is limited in what she can do. She can initiate single attacks, but is limited by what large scale measures can be brought to bear.
Since Yhoudeh is Nyarlathotep’s wife, he has taken time to help her through the process of getting back up and running. At first she tries to do all the attacks herself, but over time realizes that she will need mortal help to accomplish her goals of saving her animals and revenge against the radiance.
Since the Radiance is counterattacking at the site of their failure, Chorazin is in the crosshairs. The first step is when Nyarlthotep mentions to Jenny that Martin could do worse than offer help to the Starry Wisdom Church in Chorazin. The church elders are contacted and they bring in Walt Moore and Shray Khorep to provide advice on how to combat the interlopers.
Walt and Khorep draw on their counterinsurgency experience and develop a plan to fight the bad guys. Evan and Carl are brought into the process. Carl is the contact within the Starry Wisdom Community, Evan is first considered a “cut out” that allows the Church and Yhoundeh to interact with the world without being seen as a “person of interest” to the Radiance.
Over the course of the book, Evan is drawn into the Starry Wisdom Church in the course of his doing the “odd jobs for Walt and Khorep.
Evan will work with Carl to recruit PETA and Earth First types into the organization. The organization will be built around the precepts of an SF “A” team. Leader, XO, lead sergeant, intel and ops, weps, demo, commo, medic.
Tale will center around the creation of the “Yhoudeh’s Hounds”.
Tale will document up through the first major attack on a suspected Mi Go site in Townsend Vermont. This will go marginally well, but will draw the attention of the Fellowship of the Yellow sign and will begin to forge an alliance.
